Stem Cell Treatment

Stem cell therapy is the process of using stem cells to treat a disease. The method applied in stem cell treatment is bone marrow transplantation or hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in the form of transplantation of cells taken from umbilical cord blood.

For stem cell transplantation, a person whose cells are healthy and compatible with the sick person is needed. In general, tissues are found similar to one of the family members. Healthy stem cells taken from this person are transferred to the person with an allogeneic transplant. For stem cell transplantation, the health status of the person must be evaluated first. The cells to be used for transplantation must then be taken from the donor. A needle is placed in the bone marrow to remove the cells or the fat is obtained from the tissue by liposuction.

Cells should be concentrated after being taken from the donor. The received cells are reproduced appropriately and made suitable for injection. The cells taken are given chemotherapy or radiotherapy to the person before being transplanted and the body is ready for transplantation. Stem cells taken from the donor are transferred to the prepared body and are expected to start showing effect within a few weeks.
